Window Tinting Crazy Things You Never Thought Of

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

This is the year 2010 and Las Vegas experienced the hottest month in the history of this state. It was the month of July. With temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for almost 45 days straight.
What did that mean to professional auto window tinting companies here in Las Vegas?
Business was good!

Other than the obvious, there are several benefits of auto window tinting. And some of which may never have crossed your mind.
My sister-in-law who is a strong environmentalists advocate mentioned fighting global warming is on the list of benefits from window tinting.
What?
Here’s how that works. Keeping your car cooler with auto glass tinting can actually help with greenhouse gas emissions in cars, by allowing you to use less energy to cool the car, meaning your air conditioner is working a lot less.
Chalk one up for my sister-in-law.
Whoever thought a true blonde could be that intelligent.
Another huge benefit that you might not have thought of, is the window film’s ability to keep windows from shattering during a collision.
Auto glass is generally very resistant to breaking.
It usually just shatters into pieces but does not scatter.
Window tinting actually provides a secondary level of protection or a defense against the window shattering.
Have you ever thought of that?

Have you ever talked to an insurance agent about the added benefits of window tinting?
One of my good friends is an insurance agent that explained to me that the car tinting film is attached to windows by adhesive. This makes the windows even less likely to break in the case of an accident. Although the car manufacturers have the best intentions to protect the driver’s, many injuries are caused by flying glass.
Auto window tinting is one of the few aftermarket products that can measurably be shown to improve car and passenger safety.
Have you ever thought of that?

My sister-in-law also mentioned how window tinting comes in the form of a cancer fighter.
What?
Skin cancer has certainly become a major topic of discussion, especially in the southwest United States where the temperatures exceed 100 degrees and are extremely dry climates.
The constant reminders to wear sunscreen when you’re outside, seems to die down when automobiles are discussed. But it is pretty obvious, but you can get as much exposure writing in a sunny car as you would a full day walking outside.
This is where auto window tinting comes in as a cancer fighter. Keeping the skin from being harmed by UV rays outside the care with tinted windows is a great health benefit.

Reasons For Car Window Tinting

The top reasons many people purchase window tinting are:

1. Temperature control. With the proper auto window tinting, your car’s interior can be around 60% cooler during hot days.

2. Skin protection. Glass tinting can block about 99% of skin-damaging, cancer-causing UV rays.

3. Privacy. Window tinting can provide privacy for you and the items kept in your car.

4. Upholstery. Heat and harmful UV rays can cause seats to crack or fade and car window tinting acts as a barrier.

5. Accidents. Having auto window tinting can hold broken glass together. This will protect you from shattering glass that occurs from serious accidents.

6. Driving safety. Car window tinting can help reduce dangerous glares from headlights, snow or the sun.

Types of Car Window Tinting Film

All window-tinting film is made of polyester and has a thickness of 2 to 7 mils. To put it simply, your car window tinting consists of several thin layers of film. One side is coated with either a water-activated adhesive, or a pressure-sensitive adhesive. The other side is treated with a hard, scratch-resistant coating for protection. To filter out harmful UV radiation, chemical UV blockers are incorporated within the film. The differences between the films are due to the type of technologies that are applied.

The three main technologies applied to window tinting film are as follows:

1. Dye. Car tinting that contains dye, is basically film that absorbs heat and draws it away by external air movement.

2. Deposition. Auto window tinting film is drawn through a tank which contains metal ingots such as nickel-chrome, aluminum and copper. This produces a darker and more highly-mirrored glass tinting surface.

3. Sputtering. This is where the metal is dispersed at the atomic level. Sputtering allows you approximately 25 to 30 choices of metal, and the coating is much lighter.

There is a fourth type of film that contains both dyes and reflective metals. This type of car window tinting film is called hybrid film. Basically, when paired, you have a film that’s brighter and non-reflective.

How to Choose a Tinting Company

Tinting can range from 0 to 0 plus, so choosing a tinting company depends on what you’re looking for. Cheap tinting can be found just about anywhere. For nicer tint jobs visit places known for their credibility and customer service. After you have a list of window tinting providers, make sure you ask some questions before making a final decision.

First of all, find out how long they’ve been in business and whether or not they have other repair shops . A company that’s been in business for at least five years shows stability. More locations mean they are a successful car window tinting business.

Another question you might ask the company is whether or not you can visit the shop to see samples of their work. If they are agreeable to spending time with you, it shows that they care about their customers. If you find yourself being ignored, it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll be ignored should any problems arise with a tinting job they do for you.

While you’re there, check out a car that’s been tinted. Is the back window tinted with properly with a single piece of film? Is the film completely flush with all four edges of each side window? Does the tinting job look streaky? If a poor job was done on what you see, then it’s safe to assume yours will look the same.

Finally, you need to ask about the types of films they carry, as well as the warranty they offer. A good glass tinting shop should carry most, if not all options such as dyed, metallic and hybrid in a variety of colors and darkness.

When it comes to warranty, be sure that your tinting is legal. If it’s not, it will nullify the warranty. Not all auto window tinting companies offer a lifetime warranty, but it is possible to find ones that do.

In conclusion, window tinting can be very good for both you and your car. Take the time to find a good tinting company so you get the best job possible for a price you’re comfortable with.

Benefits of Auto Window Tinting

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Hot summer heat can make the inside temperature of your vehicle reach scorching temperatures. The sun can damage the interior after time by fading the car seats or damaging the quality of leather. There are ways to help cool the interior temperature and some ways work better than others. One of the best ways to help block the sun from heating up your car or truck is to have the windows tinted. There are many reasons to tint your automobile windows such as safety, energy savings, UV protection, and comfort. Here are some of the benefits of having tinted windows.

One of the best benefits that window tinting can offer is privacy. Some window films are so dark that you cannot see through to the interior of the car. You may have noticed this dark interior of limousines. You can also have the same privacy that the rich and famous do on their vehicles. There are laws that regulate how darkly tinted the windows can be. The divers’ window and the windshield cannot be so dark that police are unable to see you.

Another great benefit is the protection from the window tinting. The tint not only protects the vehicle’s interior but it also protects the passengers and driver. The film on the windows helps to block UV rays that are very damaging. These harmful rays from the sun are the leading cause of skin damage and skin cancer. You may not think that being in your car would affect your skin, but there is so much sunlight that is on you while driving. This can be dangerous if you spend a lot of time in your vehicle. The sunlight also damages the interior, and the tinting helps to protect it.

Going green does not just have to happen while you are at home. Believe it or not, you can also help in the green efforts with your vehicle. Using the air conditioning is a necessity when you are driving in the summer, especially in Texas. Operating your vehicle with the air conditioning running can burn up a lot of gas. The window tinting will help keep your car cool, so you will not have to use as much air conditioning or run it on high the entire time you are on the road.  A cooler car will require less air conditioning which will, in turn, use less gas and create fewer emissions.

Practical Benefits of Auto Window Tinting

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

Auto tinting is a very popular modification for cars and it has become one of the most commonly performed modifications to vehicles. While some car afficionados consider window tinting for aesthetic purposes, the primary reason for having it is to protect the interior of the vehicle from direct sun damage and to keep the inside cooler.

Car tinting is quite popular for several reasons. It instantly makes your car look suave and sophisticated while serving practical benefits as well. Your car’s interior will absolutely benefit from window tinting during hotter times of the day when the sun shines brightly into its interior. The less direct sunlight that penetrates into the car, the cooler it will be even when setting in the sun. This not only gives you a more cozy entry, but affords less time cooling off the car and a lot less flaming thighs during a hot summer drive.

It can therefore be said that window tinting can help you get better fuel economy on your vehicle. This is due to the fact that the cooler the car is when you get into it, the air conditioning takes shorter time to further cool it off. This subsequently makes gas run more efficiently as your car’s air conditioning unit can really rely on your fuel tank after sometime.

Another benefit you get when you have your car window tinted is that it keeps up to 99% of ultraviolet or UV rays outside your car, thus decreasing the harmful effects that the sun can inflict on your eyes while also reducing the risk of skin cancer, an aged skin appearance, and the other perils linked to too much sun exposure. Moreover, significant UV reduction saves your vehicle’s interior from fade, thereby extending the finish of your dashboard, linings and trimmings, among others.

One thing that most people won’t notice is that automobile tinting film has an efficient way of greatly reducing glare on the car’s windows, allowing for safe drive in brightly lit areas, during rain storms, or other poor conditions. Glare reduction helps you avoid eye strain and enhances the overall performance and driveability of your vehicle.

Another advantage of having your car window tinted is that it increases safety. Most automotive films are capable of holding shattered glass in place in the event of crashes and smashed windows.  Triple laminate extruded films also ensure no loss of color or clarity, and does not interfere in any way with GPS signals, radio, television or mobile phone reception. Additionally, a window tint also offers privacy against vandalism and theft.

There are so many advantages to having your car windows tinted. There’s no question that it makes your ride look more chic and stylish, but it also helps you to relax in a cooler vehicle as well. You wouldn’t want to drive while drenched in sweat. Comfort is definitely essential in your car too, and car window tint can help provide  that extra bit.
